The first part is an introduction, highlighting the background information, research purpose, and layout. The second part is the literature review, including the merits and demerits of the past researches. The third part focuses on the research design and methodology. The fourth part concentrates on the selected research method. Finally, a conclusion is drawn.
2.0 Literature Review
Many investigations have focused on the financial fair of European Football Associations. This part will review the related work have done in the past. It will summarize from the merits of the past researches and the demerits at the same time. The content, methodology, function, relationship will be explained in the following part.
2.1 Merits of the past researches
The related research done the past focused on the following merits.
First, the functions of financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations have been explained in details. Aim (2005, pp.104-138) took a case study for an investigation, with interview as the methods to collect data. In his case study of European football associations, such Serie A, German Bundesliga, Manchester United and Premier League, he found that the more capital and finance were given, better performed the team would present (Aims, 2005, pp.104-138). The stronger and better scored team will win more financial support of the financial groups. From this point, Aim drew the conclusion that financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations will stimulate the performance of European football players. Besides, Clandinin and Connelly (2000) with qualitative research found that the qualitative research is a good method to conduct a research because the characters and features of the case can be analyzed.
Second, various methodologies are used to undertake whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs. For instance, Clandinin and Connelly (2000) with qualitative research found that the qualitative research is a good method to conduct a research because the characters and features of the case can be analyzed. Furthermore, Gratton and Jones (2004) maintained that the research methods for sports should be in various forms according to its research aims. Moreover, with the same attitude, Creswell (2012) also took a case study with the qualitative inquiry and research design, as Creswell (2003) considered that among qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches the qualitative one is easy to conduct and practice.
Third, the significance and meaning of financial fair is exhibited in the play of Union of European Football Associations. Smith (2010), taking ongoing conversation and questions for sport and exercise psychology research, found that fair play is closely related with football sport. On the one hand, it can positively enhance the development of sport and exercise. On the other hand, it can raise the development of the citizen’s physical body. Markula and Dennison (2005) considered although sport is not driven by finance, finance can have an influence on sport. Gratton and Jones (2004) maintained that the research methods for sports should be in various forms according to its research aims. Sparkes took a research in P.E. and sport to explore the relationship between financial fair and the performance of Union of European Football Associations.
2.2 Demerits of the past researches
Just as a double-edged sword, the past research also contains the following demerits. These following points set light for the future research. First, the financial fair is like a coin with two sides whereas its demerits should also pay special attention to. In the conclusion of Serby (2014, pp.390-433), he left a space for the following researcher to make concerted efforts. Second, to what is the degree of the financial fair affects the performance of Union of European Football Association has not been measured. Besides, Yavuz et al. (2007, pp.661-689) maintained that no hidden and false should be reduced at the minimized degree. Third, what should people do to avoid the shortcomings of financial fair on the performance of Union of European Football Association? Fourth, is the qualitative analysis is the only way to conduct the research or some other methods can also be adopted? These doubts and questions will be tentatively made an alternative way to do so.
3.0 Research design and methodology
This paper will take a mixed methodology to investigate whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs in general.
3.1 Identification of the methodology
Generally speaking, this paper will conduct the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to direct the methodology separated in the first hand data and second hand data collection to examine whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs.
3.2 Broad approach
This paper will use the first hand material and the second hand material to elaborate the case. In the first hand material, this paper will carry on an interview and questionnaire to collect the data in order to check whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs. Besides, the second hand material will use the qualitative analysis to analyze the information. From the literature review in the above part, it can see that on the one hand the qualitative analysis has its prominent advantages to conduct this research. Thus, the qualitative analysis will be used to analyze the cases.
4.0 Selected research method
This part will elaborate the selected research method in details from the aspects of specific methods, procedure, ethical issues, and data analysis procedure to examine whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs.
4.1 Specific methods
Generally speaking, this paper will conduct the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to direct the methodology separated in the first hand data and second hand data collection to examine whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs.
In details, this paper will use the first hand material and the second hand material to elaborate the case.
In the first hand data collection, the interview is taken to some appointed and selected Euro football clubs to see their opinions on whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs. Their answers are representatives but not the overall’s opinions. Thus, a random view collection of questionnaire can make the necessary compensation to the shortcomings of the first. Besides, the only conduction of the latter is weak because their answers are too broad. Thus, the combination of the two can make the necessary compensation and help each other.
In the second hand data collection, the broad reading of the previous researches and investigation can further the research point of this paper. First, the research is on the basis of the previous investigation and the enhanced and promoted researches are meaningful and significance in theory and practice. Second, the correction and compensation of the previous investigations are the novel point of the new one. Moreover, the second hand data and the first hand data can direct the whole conduction together.
4.2 Procedure
The procedure of the completion of the whole research is listed as below. First, it is the literature review of what have done in the previous studies and the advantages and disadvantages should be summarized. Second, it is the data collection from research design of the questionnaire and interviews, analysis the answers from the questionnaire and interview, connected with the literature review to see the problem to solve the found problems.
In the whole procedure, the following research questions should be considered all the time. First, the financial fair is like a coin with two sides whereas its demerits should also pay special attention to. Second, to what is the degree of the financial fair affects the performance of Union of European Football Association has not been measured. Third, what should people do to avoid the shortcomings of financial fair on the performance of Union of European Football Association? Fourth, is the qualitative analysis is the only way to conduct the research or some other methods can also be adopted? These doubts and questions will be tentatively made an alternative way to do so.
4.3 Ethical issues
In the conduction of this paper especially in the design of the questionnaires and interview, it is necessary to avoid some ethical issues. First, the racial discrimination and regional discrimination should be avoided. Meyer, Gastemier and Schwab (2013) in ‘National MRSA rates run along with fair play of national football teams: a cross-national data analysis of the European Football Championship, 2008’ found the racial discrimination is a barrier the conduct of the research. As Sports is boundless, Kinesiology (2009) claimed that the evaluation standard should be conformity without the contempt from region to region, from person to person and from race to race.
Second, the reliability of the questionnaires and interview should be according to the facts without any modification and decoration. Serby (2014, pp.390-433) considers that reliability is the key to carry on a research and he justified his opinion to take a case study of British football clubs. Besides, Yavuz et al. (2007, pp.661-689) maintained that no hidden and false should be reduced at the minimized degree.
Third, the information should only be used under the scope of research without any commercial aims. Peeters and Szymanski (2014, pp.441-466) stated his research aim and emphasized this point.
4.4 Data analysis procedure
The data analysis procedure in short is as below-- research design of the questionnaire and interviews---analysis the answers from the questionnaire and interview---connected with the literature review to see the problem---solve the found problems.
The major data analysis questions are as below.
5.0 Conclusion
This paper elaborates the question whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs from the research design and methodology conduction. From the seeking of the answers and arrangement of the method procedure, this paper comes to the following conclusions. First and foremost, the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations is closely negatively and positively related with the their performance in the fair competition between Euro clubs. It is just like a double-edged sword with merits and demerits. It can stimulate the performance and enhance the group spirit, however, sometimes in order to win the competition, some Euro clubs will make some tricks to gain the financial support from the others. Second, through the interview and questionnaire to collect the first hand data, this paper will find whether the financial fair play of Union of European Football Associations promote fair competition between Euro clubs. The conductions of the first hand materials and data are more convincing. Furthermore, the second hand materials and data from the previous investigations and researches can make the necessary compensation to the side-view of the first hand data. Hence, the mixed methodology of first and second hand data as well as qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis is helpful to the conduction of this paper.
