大众传媒专业留学生assignment范文
The media has become one of the most important parts in the daily lives of people. The media can affect the way people see the world and the angle an individual see himself or herself to some degree. The types of media are various. For instance, the TV shows, the films, the radio and ads are located in many places randomly and on the Internet. In the diverse kinds of media, there are both the images of women and men, and the two genders are represented in dissimilar methods and they have various characteristics. Many studies have been made to analyze lots of films and TV shows, and these studies will contribute to this thesis on researching the gender representation in the film Sex and City1. This movie has been released in the year of 2008, which has been very popular in the world. This film has described the various lives of 4 white women, who has accepted good education and are in the upper class in the city of New York. One character in this film is Carrie, whose life has been described, and she is the main character in this movie. Carrie and a rich man named the Mr. Big. Miranda is a special career woman, who is a lawyer and tries her best to be a good mom at the same time. Charlotte is a traditional character, who wants to have a wonderful family. Samantha is a woman with open minds, and she thinks sex is more essential than everything in the relationship between women and men. These four women have been described vividly and typically in the movie. The goal of this paper is to do a research on the representation of men and women characters in the film Sex and City 1. The thesis will look into the way that male and female are represented.
The content analysis of this paper will pay full attention on the characters of Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big. The dynamic relationship between the two characters will also be analyzed in the thesis. By watching the film, the development of their relationship can be clearly seen. The three greatest topics relating to Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big are marriage, an apartment and the deep love (Belinda, 2008). In the procedure of seeking for an apartment, their relationship has some changes. The two characters both have the economic ability to buy an apartment, but they all want to be independent in their relationship.
The paper will analyze all the episode in the movie Sex and City1. While watching every episode, the scene was recorded when the two characters have done something which concerned with the three themes(http://www.51due.net/writing/Arthurs, 2006). For the first theme, things that have been covered in the observations were when the each of them was talking or considering something on marriage. For the second theme, it has been recorded when the two characters are seeking for or taking about the apartment. For the last theme, it has been recorded the time when they are doing something to love each other or discussing about love. The three themes have been typically depicted in the film. Through the analysis of the three different themes, the typical characteristics of them have been understood more clearly. The lives and thoughts of them play an important role in understanding the living ways of both women and men with comparatively good economic capabilities.
The three themes’ data has been gathered together at last, and the love between Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big have deep love with each other. There are 30 instances of seeking an apartment in New York City. Among the 6 examples when Mr. Big fell into one of the three themes of male chauvinism. Big displays he is an absolutely independent man clearly. In the scene, Carrie Bradshaw has said that it is difficult to find a favorite apartment, which is just like it is not easy to find a perfect partner in New York. What is more, while they determine to purchase the apartment, it is obvious that Mr. Big is the person on the decision. In the film, Carrie can be considered as a dependent, for she lets Mr. Big to look after the apartment, displaying that Mr. Big has much higher status in economy. He has the ability to show that it is not hard for him to shoulder the higher liability in economy in the relationship between them. Another essential respect which is being put forward in the scene is the fact that they do not get married to each other, but they are only girlfriend and boyfriend. The fact that the agent of the real-estate suggests they get married might be a mark of it being more reasonable to seek an apartment with each other when married (David, 2007).
The basic viewpoints of social constructivism are that the whole world has been constructed socially to a great degree. The meaning has been created by the social actors when they employ the conceptual systems of the linguistic and their culture (Gauntlett, 2008). Through such a kind of way, they enable the world to be meaningful and to convey the world to other people in a meaningful way. The thesis has used the common ideas and mad some comparisons to the knowledge of common people. As a whole society, all the relationships have been mapped in the paper. Although the media has changed a lot in recent years, some of the common and basic thoughts will be preserved forever. Sex and City1 has done this by describing the love between men and women, and the typical male chauvinism. This may be a little common in the development of the social movement, for the relationship between male and female always can be concluded to love. This is the mainstream in media and modern society.
